FCJ Companions in Mission in the Americas

As a result of reflection and prayer by the Sisters of the Society, the 1998 General Chapter decreed the establishment of the Companions in Mission, as “a public expression of relationship with the Society of the Sisters, Faithful Companions of Jesus, and a form of commitment for those who wish to be more closely associated with us in our mission."  Emphasis on the charism of companionship with Jesus and with his people is at the heart of the commitment of those who become Companions in Mission.

First CiMs in the Americas with some FCJs.The FCJ Companions in Mission was officially launched on January 2, 2001 (Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus). Groups of companions quickly began to form in various parts of the world.

During their time of preparation, Companions in Mission in formation familiarize themselves with the Gospel, with Church teachings, with the FCJ Society and its works, and, in turn the FCJ Sisters come to know them and value them as part of their extended ‘family’.

The first Companions in Mission group in the Americas to make their commitment was in Tuscaloosa on November 29, 2003. They were followed by groups in Durham, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Tarija, New England and Salta, Argentina..
