Transfer of FCJ schools in Ireland
to the Le Cheíle Trust
September 2009
Lighting the Le Cheile Candle
As the new school year gets underway, there is a change in the trusteeship of the FCJ schools in Ireland.
The legal process is in progress and the symbolic transfer of the trusteeship is taking place in each of the FCJ schools.
Presentation of Symbols
The symbolic transfer has already taken place in FCJ Secondary, Laurel Hill and in the Colaiste, Laurel Hill in Limerick and at FCJ Bunclody, County Wexford. These pictures are taken from the events in Limerick and Bunclody.
The symbolic transfer will take place at Bruff, County Limerick later this term.
Sr. Maria, Provincial, speaks prior to handing over the licence and agreement; the candle is lit.
A top priority of the FCJ Society and of other Congregations in Ireland is to protect the ethos of their schools at this time of change. The Le Cheile Trust was set up following the collaboration of 12 congregations including the FCJ Society.

Chairpersons receive the logo of the Le Cheile Trust
The Trust will carry out the increasingly complex legal and inspirational role of the Patron previously exercised by the congregations and it is established as a legal entity, under company law.
In setting up the Trust, the congregations wish:
- To affirm their commitment to the future of Catholic /Education
- To provide for the needs of the students and communities in their schools
- To honour their partnership with the government in the education system.
The FCJ Ethos of the School and the Management of the School will remain unchanged.

Students receive bookmarks and the FCJ Companionship symbol is handed to the principals
The School
- Continues to work from a definite vision of education and welcomes all who support that vision.
- Promotes a sense of community for all who are involved in the school
- Develops a curriculum that helps students to reach their personal potential and to contribute fully, actively and fruitfully to society
- Supports students through the pastoral care system to benefit from their education.
- The Spiritual dimension is evident in the community life of the school and is inclusive of all members and is developed in a spirit of partnership
We wish Le Cheíle - and the Boards of Management, staff and pupils of our Irish schools every success!
