A school peace garden has been officially opened by Gee Walker, the mother of murdered Merseyside teenager Anthony Walker. Mrs Walker released doves symbolising peace to mark the opening of the site at Upton Hall School in Upton, Wirral.

The pupils of the girls' school wanted to invite Mrs Walker as "an inspiring example of forgiveness". Her daughter, Dominique, addressed sixth formers before the ceremony, which was attended by about 900 pupils.

Earlier in September, Mrs Walker was named on The Independent's list of the top 50 "good" people in the UK. It recognises those "driven by an urge to make the world a better place".
