On Friday June 5th, the British Ambassador to the Holy See, His Excellency Francis Campbell presented certificates to 32 participants of 22 different nationalities of an International Leadership Development Diploma Programme held in Rome and sponsored by the Craighead Institute in Glasgow, Scotland. In a letter from Cardinal Keith Patrick O’Brien of Glasgow, which was read out by the Ambassador, the Cardinal said:

“This is a unique event for a Scottish Institute and I myself am only too delighted to be associated with the events in Rome – even though it is only through this contact by letter.

Gathered for the Awards Ceremony.Sister Christine Anderson FCJ, the Programme Leader, founded the Craighead Institute in 1987 – this was just two years after my own appointment as Archbishop!  Consequently, I have had the opportunity of admiring the work of the Craighead Institute for almost all of my 24 years as Archbishop – and realised over that time how much good was and is being accomplished through the work of the Craighead Institute in Scotland and indeed now through its outreach all over the world through this International Leadershop Development Programme, as well as through the three sister Institutes in Kaunas, Lithuania; in Zagreb, Croatia;  and in Riga, Latvia.

The outstanding apostolate of the Craighead Institute is indeed representative of the outstanding sharing work which exists in our Church for the benefit of peoples all over the world.

May God indeed bless those who are involved in the International Leadership Development Programme at this present time, whether linked with the Institute itself or some of those Superiors General or Assistants of apostolic religious congregations preparing and continuing their ongoing apostolates, as well as the person from the World Council of Churches.” (Full text of letter)
