25th Anniversary
FCJ Christian Life Centre
Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Photo: Chapel ceiling with celebratory balloons. The simple, yet elegant chapel at the FCJ Christian Life Centre in Calgary was adorned with festive balloons as FCJ sisters, staff and invited friends gathered on September 18, 2005 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the FCJ Centre.

Old friends and new greeted each other and wondered aloud where time had gone.

Sr. Patricia talks with Bishop Henry.Sr. Patricia Binchy, fcJ, Provincial Leader, welcomed the assembled guests and reminded them that twenty years before Alberta was established as a province in 1905, the Sisters, Faithful Companions of Jesus were in Calgary, founding what would later become known as the Calgary Catholic School System.

Following almost 100 years as a Boarding School for Girls, the present site was established as a Retreat and Conference Centre in 1980.

Bishop Frederick Henry of the Calgary Diocese who officiated at the Eucharistic celebration remarked, ‘if this place didn’t exist, we would have to invent it.’ He profiled three characteristics of the Centre: moral values, strong convictions and sacrifices.

Following the service, friends were invited to take the balloons, inscribed with words of prayer from the Centre’s Mission Statement and words describing the work of the Centre outside to release over the city.

More photos showing the release of the balloons.

A reception followed with lively conversation and wishes for continued success in the years ahead.
