Celebrating Marie Madeleine in Bagong Silangan

Distribution of the Malunggay seedlings

In honour of the 150th Anniversary of the death of Marie Madeleine, the FCJ Sisters in Manila distributed seedlings of the Malunggay plant to 150 families in Bagong Silangan, a relocation site next to one of the main dumpsites of Manila. 

The Malunggay’s leaves are edible, and it is considered to be one of the most nutritious plants in the world.  Even though the people have no land they will grow their plants in sacks of soil as the Malunggay is a robust plant and grows easily.
