The Marie Madeleine d'Houët Prize for Religious Writing 2009—Melbourne
Genazzano College FCJ, Melbourne, Australia, holds an annual writing competition to celebrate the life and vision of Marie Madeleine d’Houët, the foundress of the Faithful Companions of Jesus.
2009 marked a momentous milestone in the history of Genazzano, namely the celebration of 120 years as a Catholic Community. Accordingly, many of the focus questions for this year’s award centred around aspects of this marvellous celebration. It was very pleasing to have 202 entries submitted for the second year of the award. The prize was divided into four categories, each with different focus questions (Year P to 2, Year 3 to 4, Year 5 to 8 and Year 9 to 12).
The aim of this literary event is to enable the students at the college to explore and share ideas and issues that emanate from the religious and faith education which the girls are exposed to at Genazzano. Some of the pieces of work are published in the college magazine and will eventually become part of a permanent anthology which will be a reflective, source document kept in the school archives.
Each year the competition period commences in the last week of term 3 to coincide with the birth date of Marie Madeleine d'Houet on the 21st September.
