Earthquake near Yogyakarta, Indonesia, May 27, 2006

On 27 May 2006 an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude occurred near Yogyakarta.  The region most seriously affected by the earthquake lies on the densely populated Bantul plain that is south of the city of Yogyakarta.

We were  immensely grateful to hear of the safety of our Sisters who, despite considerable  structural damage done to our house at Baciro and lesser damage at Soropadan, were able to commence immediately to gather  resources and give comfort and assistance to the people most severely affected.

lThe rescue and support activities continue in a situation where thousands have died and more than a hundred   thousand people have been left homeless.

Our Sisters and the many people whose lives have been traumatized and upturned by the havoc wrought by this natural disaster need our continuing prayer.
