in Greater Manchester, England

From Sister Maureen:

As I look back on five years as County Ecumenical officer in Greater Manchester there is a sense in which it has been a five year celebration!

We have walked the streets of this city together in glorious sunshine. We have sung, prayed, laughed and played in each others churches. Together we serve the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester - let us name them - Bury, Bolton, Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside, Wigan, Stockport, Trafford, Salford and Manchester. We share joint ministry in the Airport, in the hospitals and prisons, as chaplains to Greater Manchester Police and in Industrial Mission. A further initiative has been taken to prepare a Christian welcome for athletes and visitors to the Commonwealth Games 2002. We support each other in work for refugees and the homeless.

Slowly we are learning to value the rich traditions of the denominations. Manchester Interfaith Forum is growing from sure foundations. All our gatherings are wrapped in prayer and expanded into generous hospitality.

Our surest bond of Unity is to seek together to know the mind of Jesus Christ Our Lord.

Thank you for your support of my role during the years 1996-2001
