Photos of Irene receiving her crucifix and of the Prayer of Consecration.Final  Profession  of Wati Irene, fcJ

It was with joyful anticipation that we FCJ Sisters gathered at Soropadan on the eve of Sr. Irene’s  Profession of Final Vows for a Prayer of Thanksgiving to God   This was a special moment of history in our Province with seventeen FCJs present, ten of whom were our Indonesian Sisters.   We were aware that all the Society was with us in spirit as we prayed in thanksgiving for Irene, for her vocation and for all those whose lives she has touched.   Irene responded by a meaningful dance expressing her joy in her surrender to God, after which we prayed a blessing on her.

The Mass of Profession was celebrated the next day at 4.30 pm on November 8, 2006 at the Church of St. Robert Bellarmine at Sanata Dharma University. in the presence of Irene’s fcJ Sisters, her family, friends and colleagues.  The celebrant was Fr. Putranta SJ who works with Irene in Campus Ministry.  The church was beautifully decorated with a profusion of flowers and the choir of women and men students led the singing with an air of rejoicing and youthful exuberance.  It was a solemn moment when Irene pronounced her Vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience which were received by our provincial superior, Sr. Barbara Brown-Graham.

After the Mass the 200 invited guests came to Soropadan where amid lights and floral arrangements they enjoyed a delicious meal and greeted  friends to the accompaniment of organ and violin.

The presence of a large number of young people added to the hilarity and fun of the evening as they sang and danced and enjoyed each other’s company.  The joy and appreciation of the people are a testimony  to the effective  presence of our FCJ Sisters in Indonesia and of their immersion in the lives of the people.   I was privileged to be present as a representative of Australia as was Sr. Bing who represented the Philippines . We both rejoiced at the spirit of loving companionship, at the apostolic energy of our sisters and at the growth of the FCJ Society in Indonesia.
