Opening Days — 9th and 10th October 2013

Gathering Ritual (Attached)

At 9am this morning we gathered outside the Chapter room and then processed inside, singing: (You can watch this on video below.)

Gathered in the love of Christ,
We are one in the family of God.
We are the dwelling place that love has made.
We are formed to be goodness and light for the world.

At the end Sr Katherine Mary lit the chapter candle.

For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. (Ps 36:9)
Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide us; let them bring us to your holy mountain,
to the place where you dwell. (Ps 43:3)

Afterwards we poured salt brought from around the world into a bowl and mingled it in our sacred space.

A penitential rite and scripture reading followed.

Katherine Mary fcJ, general superior, welcomed the group and introduced the facilitator, Barbara Valuckas.
(If you wish, you can watch a video of her welcome below or download the text here).

The work of the Chapter began with delegates working in six small groups to reflect and share together on cultural difference. In addition to increasing our sensitivity to the many cultures from which we come, the experience also began a process of building trust and enabling a depth of honest conversation amongst us.

From this we moved into a time of faith sharing followed by the Eucharist.

We concluded the first day with a social.
