FCJ Ministry in PAYATAS - Bagong Silagong and Tuazon

These photos show apects of our ministry to the poor people in Tuazon, a squatter area further down from our place in Scout Borromeo. Paola, Beta, Van-Van and I go there twice a week to help the very poor children with tutorials in Math and English. Some scholars from our place help us also to do that ministry.

We use their only common place, the Chapel, to serve them. They all are very happy each time we come there to be with them. Every bit of our help is being well accepted. Their eagerness to learn touches us deeply. Serving these people in whatever way we can is one of the sources of our happiness.

We also serve the squatter community very near our house through the girls club which we have also twice a week. We play games and do many activities with them (drawing, painting, making cards, bracelets, etc). Every Sunday our place is also open for catechesis for the children, run by the youth in our area. Now, it seems that the ministry of this girls club will be to offer tutorial math and English for boys and girls aged 6-12 years old.

These photos show the situation in Bagong Silangan where our FCJ Centre is present. Paola goes there every Tuesday for pastoral accompaniment, an English class and a baking class. Veronika is the coordinator there and Bing comes to the Centre once a week. At the left is a photo of some of the women whom we are accompanying, who live near our center, and who participate in a bag making project for their livelihood project.

In Maasin, Southern Leyte ...
Margaret works with the street children. As of now, they are only a few, but with Maasin having been declared a city the problem is expected to get worse so she is trying to devise a programme in which their lives will have some semblance of normality. Recently Margaret was instrumental in getting a house for the children which is safer and allows her to offer better accommodation and care. Now they are in the process of building their own house.

She visits the provincial prison with the local charismatic group and is involved in an association for the seafarers wives. She also is involved in vocations promotion for the diocese and the society.
