Provincial Chapter 2008 - January 29 to February 5
SACRED EARTH .... I THIRST
The Province of the Americas asks for your prayerful support as we meet in Chapter to examine our last five years on mission and prepare to respond to God's call during the next five years.
The Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus came to
Canada
in 1883, to the
USA
in 1920, to
Argentina
in 1984, to
Bolivia
in 1988 and to
Mexico
in 2007, and sisters from all of these countries are gathering at the FCJ Christian Life Centre in
Calgary
,
Alberta
,
Canada
. The year 2008 is special for FCJ sisters as it markes the 150th anniversary of the death of our Foundress, Marie Madeleine and 125 years of FCJ presence in the Americas.

Weave new dreams
This is what our God, ‘gazing in compassion on our world’ asks of us, NOW, only this …
… to be captivated by Jesus and his mission
… to live our identity as Faithful Companions of Jesus with enthusiasm
… to choose life (GC 2003)
This was the inspiration from our Last General Chapter an over the last two years the Province of the
Americas
has engaged in a discernment process Called Weaving New dreams aimed at choosing life. |
Seven sisters formed a
Weaving Circle
with the goal of shaping recommendations that would give creative, practical directions for the province for these next 5 years and to offer these possibilities to the Provincial for decision and action. To do this, the
Weaving Circle
took all the evaluation material available from the province and gathered other necessary information. They consulted with sisters in the province and engaged in a discernment process as group. In doing so they recognized that it is important to hear everyone’s voice as we discern our way forward. Throughout the process we have all prayed for openness to the Spirit.
The group presented their report to the provincial and council who in turn gave the following themes that had emerged from the process to the Province.
Using a team approach involving FCJs, Companions in
Mission
and others:
We find ever more suitable ways of sharing the richness of our spirituality.
We enhance our concern about empowering women.
We call forth leadership in newer FCJs, other women and young adults.
We extend our visibility and ministry to/with young women.
We ensure the growth and development of our corporate ministries.
We value and validate the life and ministry of our Companions in
Mission
.
We face our financial reality and its implications for mission and new initiatives.

Mission to Mexico
In the words of Patricia Binchy, FCJ, Provincial
On September 8, we officially begin our presence in
Mexico City
as Shirley Majeau, Nancy Mitchell and Silvana Toledo travel together to
Mexico
on September 6 to establish a community there.
All of you have offered your support of this venture through prayer, and I know that Silvana, Nancy and Shirley appreciate and count on this support. Some Companions in
Mission
have offered generous financial contribution for this venture.
Let us rejoice in this possibility of spreading our FCJ charism in another country, and we rejoice also in the generosity of Shirley,
Nancy
and Silvana in their response. This involves letting go and pain as we experience our fewness of numbers, but with our focus on the mission of Jesus, we are each called to say our “Yes” in faith and “proclaim the Truth, Jesus who is alive and lives among us”.
