"I do a great deal of fund raising for St. Johns Hospice on the Wirral. I try to keep this going all the year round – selling goods to the students, raffles and cake sales and also through my hobby of cake decoration. I make wedding cakes and celebration cakes for friends and give any profit to the Hospice".

On the 14th of September 2002, the community at Kersal (Salford) welcomed a large number of people to their home for a coffee morning and sale of work.

The idea began when Sr Berchmans was asked to move community after 62 years of ministry in Scotland. "I brought lots of materials with me so that I would have plenty to occupy me when I moved to England! I made dressed teddies, cushions, and all sorts of novelties for children".

"We raised £500 for our FCJ missions, particularly for the work of our Sisters in Romania. It was a great success!"

I enjoy knitting and making soft toys, so it gives me a lot of pleasure to be able to use this hobby for the good of others. All the money I raise is used for FCJ missions in different parts of the world.
Recently our community held a coffee morning where we raised over £1000 for the project our sisters run at the Payatas Dumpsite in Manila, Philipines. Sr. Rosa provided cakes and scones, and I made many soft toys, Sr Bernadette helped out with the tombola!

When she is not teaching or using her secretarial skills, Maria Katherine enjoys creating her own greetings cards. She uses a variety of materials and no two cards are alike.

As birthdays, feastdays, Christmas or Easter approaches, friends look forward to receiving yet another original card.
