By Sr Sofi fcJ, from the Baciro, Yogyakarta community.
The Baciro community went on a relaxing holiday in the Wonosari region, just aboutan hour and a half away from the convent. We stayed for two nights at a simple, natural-style resort called Ama Awa Resort, a little way up the hillside, where we had a beautiful view of the mountains and the ocean. It was indeed a relaxing and refreshing time together. But above all, the more exciting and life-giving experience was our encounter with our past scholar, Agnes Dewi Isworo (Dewi). She was Sr. Wati Irene’s pupil in Catholic Junior High School, Kalasan. She received a scholarship from the FCJ from 2013 to 2015.
Dewi was known not only for her academic commitment but also for her remarkable musical talent. She is a good singer who once joined the Indonesian Idol singing competition. One of us approached her to ask for help, and straight away she said, “Yes, sure, sister”. She recognized us because of the FCJ cross that we wore, and then curiosity led us to know her story. She was very grateful for the scholarship that she received, and it had brought her to a higher level of education. She is now working as a barista in that resort and a live-perform singer in a café shop near her boarding house. When asked why she wanted to work in the resort, she replied that she is taking all opportunities that come and she wants to be able to do many things.
For Agnes, the support of the FCJ Sisters was an encouragement to continue both her education and her personal growth. Her story reflects how the FCJ Society’s scholarship program has helped young people develop their talents and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways. The FCJ name has never been forgotten throughout Dewi’s life. She was so delighted to meet other FCJs, and we, too, were deeply moved by her encounter.
