Planting Vegetables in the Community Garden

Baciro FCJ Convent

Submitted by Sr Narni, fcJ from Yogyakarta, Indonesia

We are currently working on making wider use of the yard at our FCJ community house in Baciro. The initiative came from Sr Inez fcJ, who is keen on taking care of our small garden with the help of others.

In addition to planting various types of flowers and beautiful ornamental plants, we also grow a variety of vegetables and fruit: spinach, lettuce, basil, pandan leaves, chillies, long bean, tomatoes, eggplants, lemongrass, papaya, … We are happy because we can produce, enjoy and sometimes share a little with our friend, so we are not always consumers.

This activity is an initial action plan from our group in the Baciro community to be part of the Laudato Si Platform launched by Pope Francis. We hope that our neighbours will take similar steps in taking care our common home.

How nice it is to be able to reap a small harvest in our garden and share it!
