Running for Charity

FCJ Sisters and Companions in Mission participated in a charity run to raise funds for the work of CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development and the official aid agency for the Catholic Church in England and Wales. Runners were Srs Lynne fcJ and MaryAnne fcJ and Companions in Mission Helen J. and Helen R. We share this post from the CAFOD News blog

On Sunday 23 November, TeamCAFOD runners took to the iconic Silverstone Formula 1 circuit for RunFest Silverstone and they did us proud. Known for its flat, fast track and buzzing atmosphere, the event once again proved why it’s one of our favourites of the year.

This year, we saw 12 incredible runners take on the 5K, 10K, and half marathon distances, each bringing their own energy, determination and heart to the course. From first-timers to returning supporters, our team embodied the true spirit of community and solidarity. Together, they’ve already raised an amazing £4,798 — and donations are still coming in.

Among the runners were familiar friends of CAFOD, including Sisters Lynne FCJ and MaryAnne FCJ, who took on the 5K with their trademark enthusiasm. Sister Lynne summed up the day beautifully:

“I had a fantastic day at Silverstone RunFest supporting CAFOD. Team spirit, loads of support, blue sky and a personal best! It was wonderful to be part of running for this great charity… as a team we raised over £5,000 which will support many projects across the world.”

Helen shared how much the day meant to her:

“It was an absolute privilege to be part of an amazing team of people representing CAFOD at Silverstone. Knowing together that we had raised so much for CAFOD motivated me to run faster and work harder so that we can make a difference to the communities CAFOD supports.”

[…] Whether sprinting down the straights or soaking up the electric atmosphere in the paddock, each runner showed what it truly means to go the extra mile for our global family. Their fundraising will support vital projects around the world helping communities facing conflict, climate change and poverty.

To everyone who ran, donated or cheered: thank you. Your commitment keeps hope moving forward, one step at a time.
