Joy from the FCJ Garden in Ende

Sr Narni from the FCJ Ende Community in the island of Flores, Indonesia, on the fruits of their garden. This is the the 20th anniversary of the FCJ presence in Ende, and there are many things to give thanks for

We enjoyed a large bunch of bananas and shared them happily with our neighbors. This is a second harvest of bananas in our garden. This variety is called “Pisang Meja” (which translates to “Table Banana”). It is a very interesting variety because the tree is short, yet the fruit is quite large. Best of all, the taste is incredibly sweet; we love it!

There is so much joy in picking fruits and vegetables from our own small garden. Besides the banana trees, we have papaya trees, a custard apple tree, bitter gourd, chillies, and various green vegetables.

When we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the FCJ presence in Ende, we shared small papaya trees as gifts with those who were interested in planting.

We are so thankful for the fertile soil and for everyone in the community who cares for our garden. Sometimes, I invite our FCJ scholars to join some activities, such as making eco-bricks from recycled plastic, planting seeds of
vegetables, and general gardening. We truly enjoy working together to care for our common home and Mother Earth.

It is always a joy to share the fruits of our labour with others.
