After receiving the General Superior’s Report and the Presentations from the Areas in the past two days, the Society’s Financial report shed another light on the information capitulars have been given so far. Sr Mary Fitzpatrick fcJ, General Bursar, gave the Report. She explained that it is set in the context of the FCJ Constitutions and Supplementary Code, Canon Law (the law of the Church), and the Common Law in the countries where the Society is present.
At our last General Chapter in 2019, Sr. Mary gave the report herself. Today she was accompanied by two others: Kieran Barry is Head of Finance and Business Administration at the Generalate. Amanda Francis is a Chartered Accountant, who has worked with a number of religious congregations auditing their accounts and also advising them on their finances and long-term planning.
The Financial Report presented the finances of the Society over the past six years, including how they have been managed and for what purpose. The presentation was in three parts. In the first part, using the lens of stewardship, Sr. Mary presented the accounts of the past six years, showing income and expenditure, using figures and charts to help the capitulars understand our current situation and encouraging us to cast a curious eye on the future.
In the second part, Kieran focused on how our investments promote our mission and particularly those causes close to our Charism and highlighted by our General Chapter 2019 document, Widening the Circle of Love. Our investments allow our Charism to be alive even in areas where members of the Society are not present. Finally, Amanda’s presentation was future oriented. She used her analysis to highlight trends and uncertainties, while at the same time inviting us to participate in long-term planning for the future.
