Dear Friends of the FCJ Christian Life Centre,
May has a way of gently inviting us back outside, and back to enjoying the simple gifts of nature. Here in Calgary, we’re starting to notice the return of migratory birds, a quiet sign that spring is truly here. We have even spotted a robin or two!
We will begin our spring clean-up on May 9 and prepare for planting on the grounds. It’s simple work, but grounding. If you have a bit of time and energy, and don’t mind getting your hands in the soil, we’d love to have your help on May 9, 10:30 am–1:00 pm at the Centre.
May is also dedicated to Mother Mary. Her quiet trust and openness continue to guide us, especially in ordinary moments of daily life. You’re warmly invited to a Woman’s day retreat, Experiencing Mary Anew, on May 2.
There are a few meaningful moments we hold dear this month. On May 10, we celebrate Mother’s Day, giving thanks to all those who have cared for us in ways both big and small. That same day begins National Family and Life Week (May 10–17), with the theme: “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). It’s a simple but powerful reminder of Christ’s presence in our homes and communities, and an invitation to be that presence for one another.
Pentecost on May 24 brings its own sense of energy and new life. It reminds us that we’re not meant to do this alone, we are accompanied and continually sent out in love.
We’re also marking the 11th anniversary of Laudato Si’. Caring for our grounds this time of year feels like a small but real way of living the call to care for our common home. Join us on May 20 for Contemplating the Mystery of Creation.
